Learning Objectives

Through this Class plan about even or odd numbers, Students will be able to sort the numbers.

Introduction

  • Read the definition of odd and even numbers out loud to the class.
  • Ask students if they understand what an odd or even number is. Ask students to explain their reasoning.

Instruction

  • Tell students they will play a card game called “even number rule“.
  • Explain that the first step is to write the numbers 1 to 30 on cards, with a number on each card.
  • Tell students that the even number rule is a game for two people to play. Each person will receive 15 cards to start. They must shuffle their cards and put them in a pile.
  • Invite a student to come to the front of the class and illustrate how to play.
  • Tell the class that the pair will count to three and each student must place the card that is at the top of the pile in the middle.

  • Whoever has an even number says “Even” and takes both cards. If both students have an even number, the student who says "Even!" first receives the cards. If it's not obvious who said "Pair!" first, students can make a match where they place one more card and play again, with the winner receiving all cards.
  • The game continues like this until a player runs out of cards. The player with all cards wins.

guided practice

  • Play a few rounds to serve as an example of how to play the game.
  • Ask the class which player wins each round and repeat the rules.
