O Father's DayIt is celebrated throughout the country on the second Sunday of August. As one of the most celebrated dates in the country, it gathers the whole family around the father figure or anyone else who gives affection, love and attention to another individual.

In Brazil, initially, Father's Day was celebrated on August 16, as the Day of St. Joaquim, the saint considered the family patriarch, was celebrated on that day.

The year 1953 was marked for being the first year in which this date was commemorated at the national level.

The Escola Educação team understands the importance of this date for the family environment and for the preservation of the appreciation of the figures that represent love, presence and respect.

Therefore, we created a Father's Day lesson plan for elementary school.

DEVELOPMENT

Class 1

The first class will focus on talking about the term family. Write this word on the board and ask students what they mean by a family.

As they speak, write on the board the characteristics they raise that you think are pertinent.

Once that's done, ask all the students who they live with. Write family configurations on the board. There will come a time when you will have written all the settings, when that happens, highlight the most mentioned ones.

Then return to the term family and say what it represents. It would be interesting to go to the dictionary and read what it says about the meaning of the concept.

It is important to highlight that you have to consult an updated dictionary that treats the concept according to what it currently represents.

Once that's done, go to the class calendar and ask which month you're in. Ask students when the date is celebrated that month and what day it is celebrated.

After they respond, ask them what they like to do with their parents. If there is someone in the class who does not have contact with the father for various reasons, emphasize that the idea of the class is to value the family and the people who are present in their lives.

Therefore, ask them to draw a picture in which the familiar figures they consider special are present.

Class 2

The second class will focus on reading children's books. Select the books that deal with the theme father and family that are at your disposal.
