Forgiving is never an easy task. Overcoming a hurt is like waiting for a wound to heal: it takes time and care. The deeper, the longer this process takes. There are many negative thoughts and feelings, such as anger, resentment, humiliation and revenge, which, in order to be defeated, need sincerity – both with ourselves and with the other.

Forgiveness, being such a sensitive and subjective topic, is not an easy thing to discuss or work with. However, dynamics and other activities can be used to assist in this task. Check out our selection of dynamics about forgiveness:

1 Key dynamics

Key dynamics

Take a cardboard and with it, make a big paper key. Then ask the group how useful the key is. Afterwards, ask: Does forgiveness resemble a key? From this question, discuss with the participants in the dynamic whether forgiveness, like the key, has the ability to open and close

2 Dynamics of the forgiveness recipe

Dynamics of the forgiveness recipe

Ask participants what they need to be able to forgive someone by asking them to create forgiveness recipes. These may include ingredients such as “2 cups of understanding”, “a dash of affection”, “six spoons of sincerity”, among others.

Once written, ask participants to keep the recipes with them so that they will always can look at the list and remember what they consider necessary to be able to forgive somebody.

3 Theater dynamics

Theater dynamics

Create a scenario that involves hurt and resentment and needs forgiveness. Ask one person in the group to act the role of the person who hurt the other, and invite one more participant to act as the one who is trying to forgive.

Allow the two to talk and discuss how they can overcome this situation while the rest of the participants watch. After they finish, ask other people to act out the same scenario. Thus, everyone can live the experience and become more comfortable with situations in which it is necessary to confront the other with what he/she did wrong. Those who are watching also observe and learn from other forms of approach and communication.

4 stone dynamics

stone dynamics

Give a stone or other small object to each participant in the dynamic. Then ask them to perform different activities, such as clapping and playing hot potatoes, always with the stone in their hand.

After they complete the activities, ask them if they felt uncomfortable with the stone in their hand. Then say that it represents an offense that has not been forgiven. What has changed in their perception? Discuss the importance of forgiveness and how it can be harmful in our lives.

5 Letter dynamics

Letter dynamics

Those who find it difficult to forgive may feel charged with negative emotions that they cannot express. To help these people overcome these issues, work with a forgiveness letter.

Ask the participant to write a letter to the person they have trouble forgiving. In it, they must express their thoughts and feelings towards the one who has hurt them.

Writing helps people reflect and express their feelings easier than in a face-to-face conversation. After the letters are written, suggest that, if they wish, they can deliver or send them to their recipients.

6 dynamics of art

dynamics of art

If there are people who express themselves better through writing, others do it through art. Separate materials such as crayons, crayons, paints and brushes and make them available to participants in the dynamic. Then give them a sheet of paper and ask them to use them to express how they feel when they are hurt.

After everyone has finished their creations, allow them to share and explain them to the whole group.
