Government of Marshal Deodoro da Fonseca

With the proclamation of the republic in 1889, the Presidential republic came into force in Brazil. The country then went from a monarchic government to a republican regime.

Marshal Deodoro da Fonseca ruled until 1891, resigning which was to remain until 1894. This happened due to economic differences (inflation, bank failure, speculation, companies, among others) and policies (centralization of power, censorship, authoritarianism, closing of Congress National).

The soldier Floriano Peixoto then assumed the presidency and remained from 1891 to 1894. The government of Marshal Deodoro and Floriano Peixoto became known as the Republic of the Sword (1889-1894).
