Officially created in 1936, the IBGE is directly linked to the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management of Brazil, producing and analyzing interviews, and disseminating the country's demographic, social and economic information.
With this, the main objective of the IBGE is to make the entire population and governments have a more detailed knowledge about the reality of Brazil, in different aspects.
IBGE is also responsible for the production and analysis of the Consumer Price Index, which are measures used to calculate the variation in the cost of living of Brazilian families, or in the prices of products and services consumed, divided by income brackets. To calculate this index, monthly surveys are carried out in eleven different cities.
With the data collected by IBGE, it is possible for Governments to make medium and long-term planning for the country, in order to improve the quality of life, income, housing and all the factors that permeate the life of a citizen.
