ISO 14000 consists of a series of standards that determine guidelines to ensure that a particular company (public or private) practices the environmental management. These standards are known by the Environmental Management System (SGA), which is defined by the ISO (International Organization for Standardization).
The main objective of ISO 14000 and one of its norms is to guarantee environmental balance and protection, preventing pollution and the potential problems it could bring to society and economy.
For a company to guarantee its ISO 14000 certificate, she must comply with the laws provided for in her country's environmental legislation. This certificate symbolizes that a certain company is concerned with nature and has responsibility for the environment. Currently, this type of business profile contributes to the enhancement of the company's products or services and the brand.
In addition to committing to complying with the environmental legislation of the country it belongs to, the company must train its employees to follow all these standards, identifying and looking for solutions to all the probable problems that the company may be causing to the environment, thus reducing its impact environmental.
There is a Brazilian version of the set of ISO 14000 standards, known as ABNT NBR ISO 14000.
ISO 14000 Standards

- ISO 14001: deals with the Environmental Management System (SGA).
- ISO 14004: deals with the Environmental Management System, being intended for the Company's internal use.
- ISO 14010: are standards on Environmental Audits. They are the ones that ensure credibility to the entire environmental certification process.
- ISO 14031: are standards on Environmental Performance.
- ISO 14020: are standards on Environmental Labeling.
- ISO 14040: are standards on Life Cycle Analysis.
