Flag of Minas Gerais is one of the main official symbols of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, in addition to serving as a tribute to one of the most important landmarks in the history of Brazil: the Mining Inconfidence.
The flag of Minas Gerais is white with a red equilateral triangle in the center, which is outlined with the Latin expression "LIBERTAS QUAE SERA TAMEN", which means "FREEDOM EVEN LATE".
The meaning of the triangle is a reference to Holy Trinity, being the idea of its incorporation in the banner of Joaquim da Silva Xavier, Tiradentes, known for being one of the most significant members of the Inconfidência movement.
The Holy Trinity, according to Freemasonry (Tiradentes and other inconfidentes participated in this group), represents the joining of the ideals of liberty, fraternity and equality, these being also basic elements of the French Revolution.
The flag is made up of three colors: White, Red and black. Red (triangle) was adopted because it refers to the revolutionary ideal of the Inconfidência Mineira, and black is the color to highlight the motto "
freed which will be tamen".The current version of the flag of Minas Gerais was established by law No. 2793, of January 8, 1963.

Free Quæ Sera Tamen
This Latin phrase means "Freedom however tardy" as stated. Originally, this motto was created by Alvarenga Peixoto, an infidel, inspired by a verse from a poem by the Roman poet Virgil: "Libertas, que sera tamen, respexit inertm".
The supposed translation for the original Latin phrase of the poem would be "Freedom, which, although late, (me) saw inert", however there are some disagreements about this being the correct translation.
