Meaning of Facade (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Facade is a term related to architecture, and means each of the outer faces of a building. Furthermore, facade can also be synonymous with outward appearance, front or frontispiece.

A common misconception is that the word facade always refers to the front of a property. THE front facade, also known as the main façade, is just one of the façades. There is also the back facade and the side facades. The front façade is the most important, as it has greater visibility and may be the only façade facing the street.

Facades can have several different styles (classic, modern, etc.) and can be built in different materials, such as glass, steel, and others. The facades are customizable because they can be a reflection of the owner of the property in question.

In the figurative sense, the word facade corresponds to the external appearance of someone, and can be synonymous with countenance. For example: He looks very strong emotionally, but that's just a front. In reality he is one of the most fragile people I know.

Facade can also be a term used to describe a business that serves to cover up a particular illicit activity. Many criminal organizations use certain businesses as a front for money laundering.

Regarding the spelling of the word facade, many people make mistakes, writing wrongly faxed or bandaged.
