September 1 – Foundation of Sport Clube Corinthians Paulista

On September 1, 1910, a group of workers from the neighborhood of Bom Retiro, located in São Paulo, inspired by the passage of an English team in Brazil, called Corinthian Football Club, created Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. Even being today a multi-sport team, having teams in other sports such as Swimming, Basketball, Rowing, Futsal, Handball, American Football, Football, MMA and Rugby, the greatest achievements of the club came through football.

The team, which since its foundation was formed by the poorest people in society, was gradually recognized as a team of the people. The club was one of the pioneers to accept black athletes in its squad. Its first president, Tailor Miguel Battaglia, stated from the beginning that Corinthians would be the people's team.

The first field came improvised from a rented land on Rua José Paulino, which was later leveled and turned into a field. The team, which at the time was considered a floodplain, won its first opportunity in 1913 to compete in the Campeonato Paulista, but was unsuccessful, taking fourth place among five teams. The following year, he won his first title, the Campeonato Paulista in 1914, unbeaten with 10 wins in 10 games.

The 20s and 40s were emblematic, during the period the club won nine titles from São Paulo, establishing itself as a of the most important teams in São Paulo and thus rivaling the current Societá Sportiva Palestra Itália Palm trees. The following years were of ups and downs until 1961, when the team went into crisis and spent 22 years without official titles. The fast ended on October 13, 1977 with the title from São Paulo, when basil, 36 minutes into the second half, scored the winning goal against Ponte Preta, making it one of the most important titles for the team.

Corinthians Democracy

At the end of 1981, when the team failed to qualify for the first division of the Championship Brazilian of 1982, several changes happened in the board of the club and the players started to have a voice active. The movement headed by Sócrates, Wladimir, Casagrande and Zenon instituted a self-management system, in which players, employees, commission technician and board met to decide on the most diverse issues, such as hiring, dismissals and team roster, based on polls. This movement became known as Corinthians Democracy.

The movement had good results, the club was the first Brazilian team to use advertising slogans in his uniforms, which made him pay off all his debts, in addition to winning the 82nd São Paulo Championship and 83. But the end of the movement took place in 1984, when the articulation for the creation of the club of 13 began, which required the figure of a president to join the team.

Do not stop now... There's more after the advertising ;)

Stadium

In 2010, the team from Alvinegro, which until then had only Parque São Jorge as a stadium, announced the construction of a new house, Arena Corinthians. Built over three years, the stadium was inaugurated on May 19, 2014 in a match between Figueirense and Corinthians valid for the Brazilian Championship. At the time, the game ended with a 1-0 victory for the visiting team.

With a capacity for 49 thousand seats, Arena Corinthians is the 11th largest stadium in Brazil. The venue hosted the opening and six games of the 2014 World Cup. During the World Cup, the stadium had a capacity for 63,000 fans, as mobile stands were installed.

Title Summary

Among the club's achievements are 27 São Paulo Championships, five Rio-São Paulo Tournaments, three Brazil Cups, Five Brazilian Championships, one Recopa Sudamericana, one Copa Libertadores da América and two World Club Championships. FIFA.

Anthem

Guarani and Pirajá were the authors of Corinthians' first anthem, in 1930, but the song did not appeal to the fans. Only then, in 1953, when radio host Lauro D'Ávila composed the Champion of the champions, the club now has an official anthem.

"The Champion of Champions"
Lyrics by Lauro D'Avila

Save the Corinthians,
The champion of champions,
forever
inside our hearts

Save the Corinthians,
Of tradition and a thousand glories,
you are proud
From sportsmen in Brazil

Your past is a flag,
your gift is a lesson
Figures among the first
of our breton sport

big Corinthians,
always towering
you are from Brazil
The most Brazilian club

cheering

Timão, as the fans call it, has 35.5% of the fans' preference in São Paulo, being the team with the largest number of followers in the state. In addition, with more than 30 million fans spread throughout Brazil, the club is second only to Flamengo in the ranking of greatest Brazilian fans.

Shield

While the Alvinegro team played only in floodplain tournaments, the shirt did not have any coat of arms. The first was created in a hurry, in 1913, for the game against Minas Gerais, valid for that year's Liga Paulista qualifier. This shield was formed by interlacing the letters "C" and "P". The symbol we know today, with the Âncora, the oars and the buoy, emerged in 1926, when Corinthians bought the land of Parque São Jorge, where water sports were played. At that time, rowing was one of the club's most traditional sports. In 1939 the new badge began to be used on shirts.

The new shield may have given rise to Corinthians' most famous nickname: “timão”. The symbol formed by two oars and an anchor has a circular shape and resembles the “steering wheel” of a vessel, called a rudder.
