Aspects of the population of Pará

Pará is one of the states that make up the Northern Region of Brazil. Its territorial extension is 1,247,950.03 km², making it the second largest Brazilian state. It is divided into 143 municipalities, according to the population count carried out in 2010 by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), totaling 7,581,051 inhabitants, it is the most populous in the region. The population density is approximately 6 inhab/km², which shows that the state is sparsely populated.
Belém, capital of Pará, is the most populous city in the state, with 1,393,399 inhabitants.
As for the distribution of the population according to sex, 49.6% are women and the remainder, 50.4%, are men.
Its population is mixed, formed from Indians, blacks and descendants of Asian and European immigrants. In its formation, Pará had a high number of Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and Japanese immigrants. In addition to the many African and indigenous influences.
According to data from the National Indian Foundation (FUNAI), the territory of Pará concentrates 31 indigenous ethnic groups spread across 298 villages, totaling more than 27 thousand Indians. It also has black communities that are remnants of former quilombos.


Most of the population resides in urban areas (68.5%), in rural areas 31.5% of the population of Pará live.
The ethnic composition of Pará is classified as follows:
Brown: 73%
Whites: 23%
Blacks: 3.5%
Indigenous people: 0.6%.
