When taking a trip, we see several signs scattered along the highways. Among these, we find some that indicate whether the road is state or federal, the name of the road, a unit of length and a number, as can be seen in the figure below:
Suppose that, during a journey, the car you are in breaks down on the same road, at km 50. When you call the winch, you will use it as a reference to provide your location, indicating the road and position you are on.
The board, seen in the figure, has several functions; one of them is to provide the location where a particular piece of furniture is located.
Therefore, to locate a rover along a trajectory, we must orient it and define a point as the origin.
The space of a rover is the measure from the origin to the point where it is located at an instant t.
The space variation or scalar displacement is the difference between the final and initial position of a rover for a time interval Δt. That is, Δs = S(final) – S(initial).
Space of a Movable and Space Variation can have coincident values, but they are different.
Check it out: A car leaves the 15 km mark of a highway and travels until it arrives in another city, which is located at the 75 km mark. The space of this mobile is equivalent to 75km, as this corresponds to the measure from the origin to its location. The space variation in this trip corresponds to 60 km, as the initial space corresponds to km 15 and the final space corresponds to km 75, so the difference between them is equivalent to 60 km.
