THE rime it is a language style feature widely used in texts of discursive genres structured in verse, like poems and songs. This feature is used in order to assign to texts more sonority, rhythm and musicality.
In general, the rime is made between a verse and another, designating the repetition ofphonemes (sounds) identical or similar, usually in the syllable Final of words. So when we think about what is rime, then we thought about the association between the phonemes of the words that can be considered as pairs in the texts.
read one stanza of poem “Sonnet”, by the poet modernistMario de Andrade, and watch the sound effects caused by rime:
Sonnet
All the best and greatestrim (rhyme A)
Live in your naked teenage bodybeing (rhyme B)
The leg thus played and the arm, the clrim (rhyme A)
look stuck in my lostloved. (rhyme B)
although the rhymes be one stylistic language resource most used in structured texts inverses, there is poems and songs that don't have rhymes, characterizing what we call
white verses or loose verses. See the example of a poem without rhymes by the poet modernistOswald de Andrade:Portuguese error
when the portuguese arrived
under a brutal rain
dressed the indian
What a pity!
it was a sunny morning
The Indian had undressed
The Portuguese.
