Excel is a word in the English language in which the verb I excel it means excelling, surpassing others in good qualities. Derives from Latin "excelle” (to ascend, to be eminent) where “ex” means “out of” and “cellere” means “high place, tower”.

Excel is the name given to software developed by the company Microsoft, widely used by companies and to carry out financial and accounting operations using electronic spreadsheets (sheets of calculation).
Spreadsheets are made up of cells arranged in rows and columns. It is a dynamic program, with an attractive interface and many features for the user.
The Excel application is used to perform a multitude of tasks such as: simple and complex calculations, creating a data list, writing reports and graphs sophisticated, forecasting and trend analysis, statistical and financial analyses, in addition to incorporating a programming language based on Visual Basic.
Its most common and routine applications are: expense and income control, inventory control, employee payrolls, database creation, etc.
The first version of Excel for the Macintosh system was released in 1985 and for Microsoft Windows in 1987.
