Twitter is a social network and server for microblogging, which allows users to send and receive personal updates from other contacts, in texts of up to 280 characters.
The texts are known as tweets and can be sent through the Web site the service, by SMS, by specific Twitter applications to smartphones, tablets and etc.
Initially the tweets were limited to 140 characters, but in 2017 this limit was expanded so that users could express themselves better.

How does Twitter work?
On the Twitter homepage is the feed or timeline, where the posts of the profiles that the user follows are displayed. At the top of the page there is a box with the question "what's happening?", where posts are made.

Messages shared by users are public, but you can change this setting and allow only account followers to access posts.
Whenever the user wishes to receive the tweets from some profile on your feed, just click the follow button. If you no longer wish to receive updates for this profile, just click on “unfollow”.

O retweet or RT is a common feature of the social network, with it you replicate a message from another user to your list of followers, giving credit to its original author.

At hashtags are words written with the “#” symbol in front of them. Through the indexing performed with the hashtags it is possible to find the profiles that talk about the topics of interest.

Twitter History
