PEC-G 2015/2016 opens applications for scholarships for foreigners

The Ministry of Education (MEC), through the Department of Higher Education (SESu), published the notice of the 2015/2016 selection process for the Student-Graduate Agreement (PEC-G), which provides scholarships for foreigners at Brazilian universities. Registration opened on May 4th and can be made until July 3rd, 2015.

PEC-G grants scholarships in undergraduate courses to foreigners with a minimum age of 18 years old and, preferably, up to 23 years old, who have completed high school outside Brazil. Candidates must be citizens of developing countries with which Brazil has educational and cultural agreements. See below the countries participating in the PEC-G 2015/2016:

Africa, Asia and OceaniaAttractions: South Africa, Angola, Algeria, Benin, Cape Verde, Cameroun, China, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, India, Lebanon, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Kenya, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Syria, Thailand, Tanzania, East Timor, Togo, Tunisia.

Latin America and the Caribbean: Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela.

Interested parties must register with the Brazilian diplomatic mission in their country, taking the documents indicated in the Public notice of PEC-G 2015/2016. Students must also sign a Financial Responsibility Term, whereby the financial responsible affirms that they have a minimum equivalent to 400 US dollars a month to cover expenses in Brazil, since the program does not cover expenses such as food and residence.

Foreigners will also need to present the Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese Language for Foreigners, the Celpe-Bras. In case your country does not apply the exam, the candidate must do so in the second semester of 2016, after a preparatory course.

Selection and result

The selection will consist of an analysis of the candidate's academic record, considering: global average of high school equal to or greater than 60%; global average of secondary education in the official language of your country (French, English, Spanish or Portuguese) equal to or greater than 60%; and adequacy of the high school curriculum to the intended undergraduate course.

The preliminary result will be released on September 28, on the SESu website. The diplomatic representations will have until the day October 16th to inform if the student accepts or withdraws the vacancy, to announce the final result on November 3rd.
