The November calendar has many dates that promote reflection on different topics.

November is the only month of the year that has two fixed national holidays, November 2nd - All Souls, and November 15th - Proclamation of the Republic. Besides them, November 20th - Black Consciousness Day, is a holiday in several Brazilian cities.

All Saints Day, November 1st

The month of November begins with a tribute to all the saints who do not have a specific commemoration, and for this reason, it is called the "day of all saints", a date that is not a holiday.

The origin of the commemoration dates back to the fourth century, when the martyrs were remembered on the Sunday after the feast of Pentecost. In 835 d. C, Pope Gregory V began dedicating November 1st to saints who did not have a date of their own or who they were not recognized as saints, but throughout their lives they sought to do good and avoid the sin.

All Souls' Day, November 2 (National Holiday)

The Day of the Dead, dedicated to deceased loved ones, is a national holiday.

The date has been celebrated on this date since the 12th century, but since the 1st century people had the habit of praying for the deceased, making prayers for the salvation of their souls.

This day is marked by a large influx of people to the cemeteries, who usually visit the graves of friends and relatives, where they leave flowers.

Proclamation of the Republic, November 15 (National Holiday)

O The proclamation of the Republic Day, which is a national holiday, recalls the date when the monarchic regime was replaced by the republican regime in Brazil, in 1889.

Culture and Science Day, November 5th

Radiologist Day, November 8th

Radiologist Day, November 8th, is the date that recalls the importance of the professional trained to perform radiographs.

It was on that same day, in 1895, that physicist Wilhehm Conrad Roentgen began experiments that culminated in the discovery of the X-Ray, a feat that won him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903.

World Urbanism Day, 8 November

World Urbanism Day, November 8th, was created by professor at the University of Buenos Aires Carlos Maria della Paolera. This professor was responsible for founding the Superior Institute of Urbanism of the School of Architecture at the University of Buenos Aires.

International Day against Fascism and Anti-Semitism, 9 November

The International Day against Fascism and Anti-Semitism, 9 of November, is a day of struggle against a history marked by hate.

Established by the European Parliament, the date recalls the historic event that took place in Germany on November 9, 1938. This event became known as the "Night of Crystals".

National Inventor Day, November 12th, was established by Law No. 12.070, of October 29, 2009, and recalls the day when the famous "14 Bis" by Santos Dumont covered 220 meters in 21.5 seconds, a true record.

The 14 Bis had already flown about 60 meters on October 23, 1906, but its descent had been abrupt, having broken the landing gears. After that, Santos Dumont perfected his invention, achieving success on November 12th.

The National Day to Fight Cancer in Children, November 23, has the following objectives:

  • Encouragement of educational and preventive actions;
  • Promotion of discussion on policies for care for children and adolescents with cancer;
  • Organization of activities for the benefit of patients;
  • Dissemination of advances related to the disease and support for patients and their families.

The date was established by Law No. 11,650, of April 4, 2008.

Volunteer Blood Donor Day, November 25

Volunteer Blood Donor Day, November 25th, is a celebration in the form of thanks to all blood donors.

The date also aims to win new donors, which is why it was chosen to be celebrated at a time when blood bank stocks are getting low. This happens as a result of holidays and holiday trips.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, 25 November

International Day of Solidarity with the People of Palestine, 29 November

The International Day of Solidarity with the People of Palestine, November 29th, recalls the date, in 1947, of the approval of the Partition Plan for Palestine - Resolution 181 of the UN General Assembly.

The plan recommended the creation of a Jewish state and an Arab state, however, it was not well accepted, with Palestine being a constant target of great fighting between Palestinians and Israelis.

This date calls for reflection on the conflicting situation in Palestine, for whose events humanity cannot remain indifferent.

Brazil-Argentina Friendship Day, 30 November
