Amazon Day - September 5th

The date was chosen based on September 5, 1850, when D. Pedro II created the current state of Amazonas.

National Anthem Lyrics Day - September 6

The choice of lyrics for the hymn came after a public contest in 1906, launched by the then Minister of Justice Dr. Augusto Tavares de Lira. The lyrics of the poet and writer, Joaquim Osório Duque Estrada were awarded.

Years later, more precisely in 1916, this letter underwent some changes.

In 1922, the Executive Power received authorization to acquire ownership of the verses through Decree No. 4,559. The letter was made official through Decree 15.861/1922 on September 6, 1922, the eve of the celebration of the centenary of Brazilian independence.

September 7 - Brazil Independence Day

The 7th of September was chosen as the day of the independence of Brazil because on that same day, in 1822, D. Pedro ordered the Portuguese soldiers to get rid of the symbols of Portugal they wore on their uniforms.

He then uttered the famous phrase: “Independence or death!”, alluding to the fact that it would be better to die than to remain dependent on Portugal.

Despite the symbolic freedom, Portugal only recognized Brazil's freedom in 1825, after receiving compensation.

World Literacy Day - September 8th

The date was established by the UN (United Nations) and UNESCO (Organization of Nations for Education, Science and Culture) to highlight the importance of literacy in a society.

The commemorations of the date usually address specific themes, such as, for example, “Literacy and health”, which was the theme of 2007/2008, and “Literacy and empowerment”, the theme of 2009/2010.

Thus, the population is also encouraged to understand that literacy is not only related to knowing how to read and write, but also with the possibility of access to very important information, which can have an impact, for example, on the health and rights of individuals.

National Symbols Day - September 18

On the day of national symbols, the flag, weapons, seal and anthem are celebrated.

On September 1, 1971, Law No. 5,700 not only regulated such symbols, but also instituted graphic standards related to colors, dimensions, etc.

The date was created to mark the importance of each symbol in the country's history.

Tree Day - September 21st

The date aims to raise awareness in society about the importance of trees for the population. With this, it is expected that there will also be greater concern with preservation.

The date was chosen taking into account the proximity of the beginning of spring in the Southern Hemisphere, which occurs on September 22nd.

In addition to providing shade and shelter for some species of animals, trees contribute to the production of oxygen during photosynthesis, with an increase in air humidity, with a decrease in temperature, among others.

Spring Equinox Day - September 22

The Equinox happens when, due to the tilt of the Earth's axis in relation to the incidence of sunlight, the day is divided into an equal number of hours: 12 hours in the day and 12 hours in the night.

The spring equinox is the day this season begins. It is a date that takes place every year between the 22nd and 23rd of September in the Southern Hemisphere and between 20th and 21st of March in the Northern Hemisphere.

O spring day itself, it will be celebrated in Brazil on September 22nd. This is the next season after winter and before summer. Traditionally, it has a mild and humid temperature, and this is when the flowers tend to bloom. Victory Anniversary - September 8th

In Espírito Santo, the place where the city of Vitória is today was refounded by the Portuguese.

They settled there to escape attacks by indigenous people, Dutch and French, who fought for the territory.

São Luís Anniversary - September 8th

It is said that on September 8, 1612, the French celebrated a ceremony in what is now the city of São Luis, in Maranhão, to celebrate their inauguration.

Frevo Day - September 14th

Frevo, a traditional dance typical of the state of Pernambuco, is celebrated in Brazil on September 14th.

The date was chosen in honor of Osvaldo Oliveira, journalist who created the word “frevo”.

In the dance, participants move their feet very quickly, as if the ground were boiling. "Frevo" alludes to "fervo", from the verb "boil".

The creation of this commemorative date was instituted by the UN, United Nations.

National day of struggle for people with disabilities - September 21

This commemorative date was established by Law No. 11,133, with the objective of raising awareness about the importance of right to integrate people with disabilities into society, on an equal basis and without prejudice of any order.

The day also highlights the importance of improving the means of inclusion, such as accessibility; there are still many places that are difficult to access for people with disabilities.

The MDPD (Movement for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities), the group responsible for creating this commemorative date, has been fighting for social improvements in the lives of people with disabilities since 1979.

Accountant Day - September 22

The accountant is the professional whose main function is to manage the financial, economic and equity part of a company.

The choice of date to celebrate the profession of accountant is a reference to the day on which the Accounting course was created: September 22, 1945. On that day, the course was regulated as Higher Education, through Decree-Law No. 7,988, signed by then president Getúlio Vargas.

Transit day is celebrated on September 25th because, on that same day, in 1997, the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB) was promulgated through Law No. 9,503.
