Christmas dinner. Origin of Christmas Supper

For some people, the Christmas dinner is linked to the Last Supper of Christ alongside his disciples, perhaps it really has some connection. However, according to the literature, the Christmas dinner originated from the old European custom of leaving the doors of the houses open on Christmas day for receive travelers and pilgrims, and these, together with the host family, fraternized that date so significant for Christians. For this celebration, a lot of food was prepared, consisting of several dishes. This tradition was spreading around the world and each region adding a local particularity, such as the addition of turkey to the North American supper, a peculiarity that soon became part of the customs of other countries, as in the Brazil.

Below are the main dishes present in the Brazilian supper:
• Peru;
• Piglet;
• Rice;
• Crumbs;
• Chestnuts;
• Nuts;
• Tropical salad;
• Fruits (especially those exclusive to the Brazilian territory);
• Codfish dumplings;
• Wines;
• Champagne, etc.
But nothing prevents you from innovating the menu and decoration, in order to make your Christmas dinner much more special and exclusive. A good tip is not to drink alcohol abusively so as not to spoil the celebration.
