The oceans are extremely important to humanity, mainly because of navigation and sea fishing, which are activities carried out all over the world.
There are two types of fishing: commercial and artisanal.
In the development of commercial fishing, the equipment used (vessels, GPS, sonar, giant nets, deposits for the storage, among others) are sophisticated, a fact that favors the success of fishing, significantly increasing the productivity. The high quantity of fish provides the commercialization of a large stock of fish. Despite the efficiency of commercial fishing, it often causes environmental problems, as it fish and shellfish of all sizes, some very small, not to mention that the quantities are exorbitant. This fact compromises the proliferation of species, triggering an imbalance in the marine environment.
On the other hand, in artisanal fishing what is perceived is the use of rudimentary and traditional instruments, consisting of small vessels without technological resources and nets manufactured by themselves fishermen. In this category of fishing, productivity is almost always modest and serves as a source of food for the fisherman's family, the surplus is sold in the local community. Artisanal fishing in Brazil is practiced along the entire coast of the country.
