A Alive is planning to publicize its fixed internet via 5G. The new residential broadband service aims to replace fiber optics, implementing a new connection standard. Called Vivo Box, the new modality will feature a small box that receives the signal and passes it on to other devices connected via Wi-Fi.

The operator's movement is based on FWA G5, an acronym that indicates fixed wireless access by consumers. In other words, the new modality should work in a similar way to devices that used 3G chips to connect to the internet.
In this way, the devices used an operator's SIM chip with connection support to enter the network. With Vivo's new feature, the difference is in the use of routers, which will be more complete and robust to be able to distribute the signal through the Wi-Fi connection.
How much will Vivo's fixed 5G network cost?
According to documents sent to Anatel by the Operator, Box 5G will be made available for R$150 per month for individuals. It is worth mentioning that this broadband format is currently offered, on a restricted basis, to business customers. In addition, Vivo will offer two 150 GB plans, namely:
- Vivo Box 5G 150 GB: R$150 monthly (R$98.20 for mobile services + R$51.82 for the digital combo);
- Vivo Box 5G PLN: R$145 monthly.
The Mobile Services and the Digital Combo are integral parts of the first offer and cannot be canceled in part or in full. In other words, the cancellation request will result in withdrawal from the promotion.
If the customer wishes to cancel the digital combo and maintain the mobile service, they must choose the mobile service offer that does not have a digital combo attached. Therefore, changes to the offer can be made at Vivo service points.
Release forecast
It is not yet known when the Alive will disclose the residential 5G offer plan, as there is no information about the new modality on its official website. According to the regulation, the service will be available in 26 Brazilian states and the Federal District. However, it will not be possible to use international SMS roaming and voice services.
Finally, the measure comes to serve the public located in places where fiber optic cabling is not possible.
