Since it was launched in the early 1990s, the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC) has assumed a prominent role in the list of assistance mechanisms Brazilians.
This benefit, which has an assistance and not a social security nature, is intended for people over the age of 65 years old who are in a situation of social vulnerability and have never contributed to the pension.

Furthermore, people who have proven to have lost their ability to work due to illnesses can resort to “retirement” via BPC, which remains distinct from pensions conventional.
Is anyone who receives the BPC entitled to the 13th salary?
No, unfortunately the BPC does not provide for payment of the 13th salary, or Christmas bonus, as the benefit is also known.
The reason is the nature of this benefit, which is assistance and not social security, as mentioned previously.
Payment of the 13th is only possible because of the social security contributions made by workers, retirees and pensioners monthly, when withdrawing their earnings. From there, the value is calculated and the allowance is attached to the annual payments.
In the opposite direction, the Continuous Payment Benefit works as a fixed minimum income aid, a “government grace” that aims to make the lives of socially vulnerable people dignified.
To date, no bill or provisional measure has proposed the creation of a type of thirteenth for the BPC.
