The party is over! 2024 will have few long holidays; See which ones

If 2023 had many long holidays for workers to rest, the situation for 2024 is not so favorable. We can prepare to work a little harder over the next 12 months.

We will have nine holidays nationals, but only three will have the possibility of “amending” more days with optional points. In other words, there are few dates that fall on a Monday or a Friday.

One of the reasons for this is the fact that 2024 will be a leap year. This will mean that most of the time off takes place on weekends – and then it won't do any good for the worker, right?

Optional points

If we have the possibility of optional points, the situation could get a little better and increase our time off. Then, we will go from three to six.

Of these, only two have the possibility of getting a little bigger: the Carnival (February 13, a Tuesday) and Corpus Christi (May 30, a Thursday).

It is worth remembering that municipalities and states can determine by law that national holidays, such as the two mentioned above, are also local holidays.

Check out all the holidays for 2024

  • January 1st: Universal Fraternization (Monday);
  • March 29: Passion of the Christ/Good Friday (Friday);
  • April 21: Tiradentes (Sunday);
  • May 1st: World Labor Day (Wednesday);
  • September 7: Independence of Brazil (Saturday);
  • October 12th: Our Lady of Aparecida Day (Saturday);
  • November 2: All Souls' Day (Saturday);
  • November 15: Proclamation of the Republic (Friday);
  • December 25th: Christmas (Wednesday).

Black Awareness Day (November 20) is not included in the survey. The date will fall on a Wednesday next year, but it is not considered a national holiday or optional. The decision depends on municipal or state law.

Currently, only six states consider the day a holiday: Alagoas, Amazonas, Amapá, Mato Grosso, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Some cities in the country, even if they do not have state law, have municipal law, this is the case, for example, in Boa Vista (RR).
