Is intermittent fasting better than dieting? See what THIS research says

As a weight loss or weight loss strategy, many people choose to do intermittent fasting. This practice consists of going long periods without eating – up to 16 hours or 24 hours – unlike conventional diets, which recommend eating every 3 hours.

There is a conflict between supporters of the two strategies. What is best and what works best: counting calories or count hours without eating? A recent study, led by researchers at the University of Chicago, in the United States, appears to have arrived at this answer.

Intermittent fasting or “traditional” diet? See what study says

The article, written by doctors and researchers from the University of Chicago, was published in Journal of the American Medical Association

(JAMA) in October this year. According to the ceiling, fasting can (pay attention to the verb!) be more efficient in losing weight than counting calories.

The researchers highlighted a hypothesis that the fast Intermittent may control blood sugar better than a “traditional” diet in patients with type 2 diabetes. This has been confirmed.

Results

The study was carried out with 75 people, aged between 18 and 80 years. They all had type 2 diabetes and were overweight. They were divided into three groups: one would intermittent fast for 8 hours and the other would reduce calories by 25%.

The third would not change anything in his daily life.

At the end of the study, those who fasted lost about 6% of the weight they had at the beginning and those who counted calories lost 2%. Furthermore, going without food also reduced glycated hemoglobin levels and proved to be more efficient in controlling glucose.

It is interesting to note that the study participants were closely monitored by doctors and that they all had one condition in common, diabetes type 2. So, don't try to replicate the research conditions in your home.
