Today, October 2nd, is the 109th birthday of Porto Velho. The history of this city tells about the economic development of the northern region and on the establishment of diverse populations along the Madeira River.
The city was formed from the construction of the Madeira Mamoré Railway. This work aimed to transport rubber production from the Bolivian region to ships going to the USA and Europe.
Porto Velho's birthday
Porto Velho's anniversary celebrations began on the day September 29th. An artistic presentation took place at the Chiquilito Erse Olympic Village, residents gathered and enjoyed a performance by the Brazilian Rhythmic Gymnastics Team.
An event was also held, with a special program, this Sunday, October 1st. There were performances by DJs, samba groups, pagode and country music. The party started at 7pm and took place at the city's Cultural Market.

History of Porto Velho
The history of Porto Velho begins in 1907 with the construction of the Madeira Mamoré Railway, which gave rise to the first local agglomerations. But the
status from the municipality only came in 1914, on October 2nd.Over the years, the urban region of Porto Velho grew and became more robust. With emphasis on the 30s, which was marked by inaugurations and the installation of highways that connect the city to others in the region North and Midwest.
In 1943, the city was elevated to the category capital of the then federal territory, which began to be called the federal territory of Rondônia, in 1956. After becoming a state, the capital category was maintained, which gave in 1981. Porto Velho is today the most populous city in Rondônia and the economic center of the state.
