SUCCESS STORY! Meet the company that made millions from poultry waste

In the heart of the state of Paraná, the GTFoods Group, which owns the sixth largest chicken meat processing plant of Brazil, took significant steps in 2023 to turn a problem into a business solution.

With an investment of R$1.5 million in its factories, the company dedicated itself to transforming bird waste slaughtered into valuable products: flour and oil.

Such an initiative is not temporary; rather, it is a long-term commitment. GTFoods plans to inject more than R$20 million over the next three years to develop this segment.

The products resulting from such transformation have a wide range of uses, from supplying pet food to the production of biodiesel.

The success of this endeavor cannot be underestimated. Surprisingly, the products represented 8% of total revenue, which reached an impressive R$3.5 billion.

More specifically, the company's ingredients arm, as the sector is called, generated revenue of R$250 million.

The outlook for the current year is even brighter, with growth expected to reach 8%, reaching the mark of R$ 270 million, according to estimates by the slaughterhouse's national sales manager, Carlos Eduardo Lime.

Company uses bird remains

Lima emphasizes that, over the last four years, the slaughterhouse has intensified its investments in the ingredients unit.

He highlights that such investments were aimed at improving equipment and, thus, offering higher quality products, specially adapted to serve a highly niche market demanding.

With the production of oil and flour, GTFoods added value to animal innards, which, in the past, were simply discarded as waste.

In an operation that deals with the reduction of 500 million birds per day, significant parts were wasted and had no use.

Now, the company adopts a total harvesting approach, from feathers to innards, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability.
