Two years ago, journalist and designer João Brizzi rented an apartment in the Catete neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro. The location had no apparent problems, but it turned out to be a huge headache.

In the last 40 days, the “apê” has become the epicenter of an unusual and unpleasant problem: a mushroom infestation.

Where is the longest beach in the world located?

It all started with infiltrations that persisted without solution, even after contact with the owner and the digital real estate company Quinto Andar, which brokered the rental.

The infiltrations created the ideal conditions for the growth of mushrooms, which began to sprout in the apartment's rooms in an apparently uncontrolled manner.

João Brizzi initially tried to solve the problem by removing the mushrooms, but his attempt was in vain, as they returned even more vigorously.

The apartment became a challenging and uncomfortable environment to live in, due to the persistent presence of these unwanted fungi.

Rented apartment was “attacked” by mushrooms

The report of this peculiar situation was shared by João on his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter) and quickly caught the attention of internet users.

In the post, João also discovered that, after moving apartments, the property advertisement returned to the Quinto Andar platform.

Some curious comparisons have emerged, alluding to thedeadly fungi from the series “The Last of Us”, available on HBO Max.

The photos that the journalist took of the rooms reveal the critical condition of the walls, which were swollen and severely deteriorated due to recurring problems with infiltration in the building.

One of the images even shows a mushroom growing behind the bathroom mirror. João reported that although the mushrooms died within 12 hours of being removed, they were able to grow up to 15 centimeters in just one day, demonstrating the rapidity and persistence of this infestation unusual.

According to the resident's report, the infiltration saga began in October last year, when the first evidence of the problem began to emerge.

The solution to the infiltration was only considered by the owner of the apartment located on the upper floor in January of this year.

During this period, the journalist reported considerable difficulties and, according to him, the Quinto Andar real estate agency did not provide assistance during the process.

It was only after the publication detailing the situation went viral on social network X and became one of the most talked about topics that Quinto Andar got in touch.
