Like other e-commerce giants, AliExpress is following in the footsteps of the competition and joining the program “Compliant Shipping” from the Federal Government.
This significant change will benefit consumers, as the retailer will now be exempt from taxes on purchases of up to US$50, around R$250.

The program, presented in June, aims to promote the advance collection of import taxes at the time of purchase, at participating companies.
Furthermore, it aims to facilitate the process of transporting orders to Brazil, making release during inspection more agile and effective.
AliExpress has approval granted by the government
The government's approval for Alibaba Group, the parent company of AliExpress, came surprisingly quickly, just one day after the membership application was submitted.
This approval, although it has an indefinite validity period, is considered to have a “precarious nature”, which means that, theoretically, it could be revoked. However, the likelihood of such a revocation happening is considered low.
At the end of August, the company issued a note highlighting the benefits that this process brings in terms of safety for Brazilian consumers.
Therefore, the Alibaba Group is committed to maintaining a constant dialogue with authorities and society, demonstrating its willingness to collaborate in the continuous improvement of the program.

AliExpress's participation in the “Remessa Conform” program brings a fundamental advantage to consumers: the application of the tax, which corresponds to 17% ICMS, at the time of purchase.
With this measure, buyers will not be subject to additional import charges when their products arrive on Brazilian soil.
This practice, previously only available in commerce between individuals, now extends to electronic commerce, due to the initiative created byMinistry of Finance.
It is essential to highlight that, despite the implementation of the program for purchases of up to US$50, acquisitions whose value exceeds this limit remain subject to the full tax rate of 60% on the value.
Therefore, it is important for consumers to be aware that this exemption only applies to lower value purchases, while higher value purchases still contain import taxes occasional.
