WHO updates guidelines on healthy eating
fat consumption
The World Health Organization reinforces that total fat intake should be restricted to a maximum of 30% of daily calories consumed.
In addition, the importance of opting for unsaturated fats, found in vegetable sources such as olive oil, avocado, nuts and other options, is highlighted.
This guidance is valid for people over 2 years old, aiming to promote food choices that contribute to a balanced and healthy diet.
carbohydrate consumption
With regard to carbohydrates, updated WHO guidelines emphasize the quality of foods consumed and set specific intake guidelines based on age group.
For people over two years old, priority should be given to healthy sources of carbohydrates such as whole grains, fruits and legumes, which include options such as beans, chickpeas and lentils.
Consumption of sugar, fruits and vegetables
In reinforced WHO guidelines, it is highlighted that adults should include at least 400 grams of fruits and vegetables in their daily diet, in addition to ensuring the intake of 25 grams of fiber.
With regard to added sugar, present in foods such as honey, beverages and desserts, the recommendation is to limit its consumption to no more than 10% of total energy intake.
