WhatsApp will allow the sending of images in HD; know more

WhatsApp announced this Thursday (17) that it will allow the sending of HD photos in conversations. This update was an old request from users who felt hampered by the limitation that compromised the quality of photos sent by the application.

The news was announced by Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, the company that controls WhatsApp. In a Facebook post and through the Instagram broadcast channel, Zuckerberg shared a video of the new update.

Currently, a photo in the application's default quality is sent with a maximum of 5 megapixels. The HD image can be shared with a resolution of 9MP to 16MP. This represents a much higher quality for the work images or personal photographic records that people share through the platform.

Furthermore, those responsible for Whatsapp told the G1 portal that "the HD images will still be compressed a bit to ensure that sending and receiving are still fast". That is, the resource will increase the quality of the images, but it has some limitations, in case of weak internet connection or data limit.

With the new update, to maintain the quality and detail of the images, simply select the “HD” option when uploading.

Quality and security when sending images in HD

Firstly, another concern of the platform is to maintain the privacy of data shared in conversations. Therefore, they reinforce that all WhatsApp content remains protected with end-to-end encryption, even after the new update.

This new feature will also improve sharing of images on other social networks such as Facebook and Instagram. Typically, people share images via the messaging app and then post them on social media.

Previously, this process was limited by the size of images that could be sent via WhatsApp. Consequently, the image published on social networks had less sharpness and details. Now, the update promises to preserve the high quality.

However, the WhatsApp application reinforced that not all images will be shared in HD resolution: “if the person you are referring to you're sending is on a weak or limited connection, they can still only download the default version of a photo you've uploaded at HD”.

Finally, the update is gradually being made available to users. The expectation is that everyone will be able to access the new feature in the coming weeks.
