The criminals behind this scheme are masters of the art of persuasion and have access to a considerable amount of information about victims and their legal cases.

Such scammers contact people, posing as the very lawyers who are handling their cases.

Using a convincing device, they make specific requests, often involving transfers of funds or deposits, with the intention of releasing alleged compensation.

The complexity and effectiveness of this scheme stands out as a worrisome threat, requiring citizen vigilance and a wider awareness of the tactics employed by these scammers.

“Lawyer’s Coup” makes a new victim in São Paulo

In the city of Jundiaí, a woman became the latest victim of the infamous “blow of the Lawyer”.

According to information from the local Civil Police, she was involved in a lawsuit against one of the companies in the region, at the Labor Forum.

Recently, the woman was approached by a criminal who presented himself as a lawyer for the office responsible for her case.

In that contact, it was alleged that the woman should make a deposit in the amount of BRL 4,000 in the account of an alleged representative of the adverse party in the process.

According to the victim's testimony, the offender justified that the amount requested, in the amount of R$ 4 thousand, corresponded to the Income Tax related to the compensation.

Under the allegation that the judge would only release the payment after the deposit, the victim was persuaded to perform the operation, believing it to be a true demand. Regrettably, she completed the transaction.

Don't fall for the scam!

The Civil Police and OAB guidelines are a fundamental resource to prevent falling into the "Lawyer's Coup", considerably reducing the risk of becoming victim of fraud.

It is extremely important that, before making any payment, a confirmation contact is always made with your legal representative.

This validation should preferably occur through secure means, such as the telephone or other reliable communication channels.

It is also crucial to maintain a state of vigilance against payment requests directed to individuals or persons other than the company duly stipulated in the office services contract.

Distrust in such situations can be an effective tool in the early detection of possible pitfalls.

By taking such precautions, individuals are able to strengthen their protection against these cunning schemes and ensure a safer interaction in the legal realm.
