36% of Brazilian workers are dissatisfied with their meal vouchers, says iFood

An innovative survey, commissioned by iFood, a renowned meal delivery platform, and conducted by LCA, revealed that more than a third of workers are dissatisfied with what they get.

Corresponding to 36% of the total, they express dissatisfaction with the companies responsible for issuance of their food voucher (VA) and meal ticket (VR) cards, wishing to be able to exchange them.

The analysis, carried out in July last year, included approximately 500 individuals from different regions of the country.

Among the results, it was highlighted that 38% of beneficiaries expressed dissatisfaction with the acceptance of the current brand of their card in establishments.

In addition, 18% of participants indicated that the flag in use did not exceed their expectations regarding the quality of services provided.

Another significant criticism was registered with 39% of respondents mentioning that the current brand does not offer innovative services capable of meeting their needs.

Workers remain dissatisfied with VR and VA

According to Guilherme Paiva, responsible for Public Policies at iFood, the data highlight the desire of beneficiaries in being able to select the company that best aligns with their needs individual.

The study also points out the predominant dissatisfaction with the current market configuration, in which the limited acceptance of the benefit voucher in several establishments represents a challenge.

In some geographic areas, the situation reaches the extreme where no restaurants or supermarkets accept meal or food vouchers.

According to the Law 14,442, sanctioned in September 2022, a regulation was established that addresses the payment of food allowance, in a more negotiable way.

According to the law, workers have the right to agree to change the company responsible for the benefits, a process called portability, in addition to allowing the card to be used in any payment terminal.

The expectation was that these measures would come into effect from May of this year. However, this did not go as planned.

The regulation of the law by the current government was not implemented, resulting in the postponement of its implementation for the next year, specifically in the month of May.

For Paiva, the change in the sector aims to considerably increase the number of accredited establishments, thus expanding the range of benefits to workers.

He also highlighted the significant potential for savings through the reduction of these fees, which could reach a substantial figure of up to R$ 5.21 billion per year for the bar sector and restaurants.

The change would not only benefit the establishments, but would also contribute to shaping a more equitable and favorable scenario for all those involved in the industry.
