What is the purpose of the document?
The Elderly Person's Card aims to facilitate the mobility and displacement of the elderly, which are guaranteed by law. Thus, the document allows the elderly to occupy free spaces in interstate vehicles, such as buses, trains and boats, or pay only half the value of the tickets.
André Veras, director of the Assistance Benefits Department of the National Social Assistance Secretariat (SNAS) of the Ministry of Citizenship, explains that all BPC elderly beneficiaries who are included in the Single Registry meet the selection requirements for requesting the portfolio.
“Today we have about 94% of the public registered, which represents more than two million elderly people. The digitization of the Carteira represents an important advance for the elderly who receive the BPC, since it simplifies the proof of entitlement and request for free interstate tickets or a 50% discount on the cost of tickets,” he says.
