Dutch millionaire and evangelical Johan Huibers built a life-size replica of Noah's Ark. Not only that, but he used only his own resources for this.
structure of the ark
Johan Huibers used the exact measurements of Noah's Ark described in the Bible to build the replica. The building is 137 meters long and 22.5 meters wide. Regarding its height, the incredible 13.5 meters draw a lot of attention, making the ark equivalent to a 4-story building.
Inside the ark, it is possible to find several statues of animals, representing the event narrated in the Holy Bible.
Time, cost and construction process
With Johan hard at work full time, the replica took 20 years to complete. The millionaire used American cedar and pine wood. It is estimated that around 12,000 trees were needed for construction.
Consequently, the adventure did not come cheap for the Dutchman. Johan had to shell out a huge amount, around US$ 1.5 million, around R$7.8 million at current prices.
Why did Johan decide to build an ark?
According to the Dutchman, a dream was the determining factor for him to embark on this project. In it, a flood occurred in his country, and this intrigued him, leading him to interpret the dream as a sign from God. From there, he started his project.
tourist attraction
The replica of Noah's Ark has become an attraction tourist quite popular in the Netherlands, attracting thousands of visitors every year. Johan Huibers allows tourists to explore the interior of the vessel to see everything in detail.
