Following the discovery of the Banksy mural on their property, Garry and Gokean Coutts are estimated to have shelled out around $247,000 to remove the artwork.

Initially, they were delighted with the presence of the mural, which has a potential value of millions of dollars.

However, as time passed, the situation became extremely stressful for homeowners.

Garry expressed concern that Banksy may not have considered the consequences not intentional for the owners, and stated that, if they could go back in time, they would opt for a different decision.

A local council official informed the Coutts that it would be necessary to place a “preservation order” on the Banksy's mural and that they would be responsible for maintaining it, at annual costs of tens of thousands of dollars. dollars.

Due to past incidents such as the theft of some of the artwork and attempts at vandalism, Garry hired a night watchman to protect it.

He also recounted an occasion when individuals were caught with pots of white paint, hinting at possible intent to vandalize the mural.

The Coutts opted to shed the burden, considering the nuisance far greater than the distinction of unwittingly possessing a Banksy original.

In April, they hired a construction company to strengthen the wall where the seagull mural was located before using a 40-foot crane to completely remove it.
