Senate determines new workload
In addition to the days of the week, the monthly sessions have changed.
It was approved that senators will work for three weeks a month. In the last week, the work will be remote and with smaller agendas to be considered. With this reduction in hours, they will be in Brasilia, in the country's capital, for just nine days a month and, in total, ninety days until December of this year.
Last Tuesday, the 28th, it was decided that they will be open from 2 pm on the selected days and that they will start voting from 4 pm. The salary will also be modified, becoming R$ 41.6 thousand from April, as defined by the readjustment in 2022. The current value considers BRL 39.2 thousand.
All decisions were taken unanimously by party leaders. Oriovisto Guimarães (PR), leader of the Podemos party in the Senate, has a positive opinion on the changes.
“I think it was a step forward. This will allow greater contact with the base of each senator, one week per month”, he said.
'Reduced' project started during the pandemic
Before Covid-19, the week was reduced for those who worked in the National Congress. This was true for both deputies and senators. With the pandemic, the need arose to expand voting for the remote work.
