Rio limits single ticket benefits to income of up to R$3,200

the justice of Rio de Janeiro decided to change the rules for the Bilhete Único Intermunicipal benefit, reducing the income threshold for accessing the benefit. From now on, the Bilhete Único will only be valid for users with a monthly income of up to BRL 3,205.20, in contrast to the previous limit of BRL 7,507.49.

The Bilhete Único Intermunicipal is a benefit that encompasses several types of public transport, such as ferries, subway, train, municipal and intercity buses, legalized vans, BRT and VLT.

With it, users have the advantage of using up to two types of public transport, one of which is compulsorily intercity, within a period of three hours, paying a maximum amount of BRL 8,55.

Minimum value of the Single Ticket was judicially updated

The decision taken by the Special Body of the Court of Justice of Rio considered the state law that extended the benefit to a higher income range to be unconstitutional.

The measure aims to direct public resources to serve the most vulnerable group of workers. The determination must be fulfilled immediately by the state government.

The State Secretariat for Transport and Mobility and Riocard Mais, responsible for administering the ticketing system electronics, are working together to implement the necessary operational measures to comply with the determination judicial.

Initially, the change in the income limit for the Bilhete Único will be applied to new users who register as of today. For existing users, there will be a gradual re-registration process.

After the initial implementation of changes to the benefit card for new users, a re-registration calendar will be released for those who already use the benefit. During re-registration, users will need to make a new tax return in the system.

The Department of Transport is in the process of defining the complete schedule for the re-registration of existing users on the Intermunicipal Single Ticket. This information will be disclosed shortly, allowing users to adapt to the new requirements and maintain access to the benefit.
