Social security: new informal work rules can be created

According to Lupi, the amount of informal work existing in Brazil is one of the priorities that need to be addressed. Known as “uberization of work”, the focus will be on couriers and app drivers who have grown in Brazil. In all, there are about 20 million people who will be a priority for the new minister.

So far, the intention is to enable these workers to contribute to Social Security in order to guarantee their retirement in the future, in addition to reinforcing the insurance coffers. The amount intended to be charged, as guided by Lupi, needs to be adequate and fair. “It has to be a lower price and also have a different limit on the pension amount. You can't pay less to earn more, it has to be fair”.

“We have a contingent of 20 million Brazilians in informal service, on their own. And the vast majority pay nothing to Social Security. So, if you charge a lower price for Social Security, giving a ceiling and a different limit, you have a potential collection that can greatly improve the situation of Social Security", pointed out the minister of pension.

2019 Pension Reform

The new minister directed criticism towards the approval of the Reform in 2019 and indicated that he intends to carry out a review. The minister proposes that a meeting be held with retirees and workers, government representatives, unions and everyone can indicate changes.

“I think she was very harmful to the most fragile classes in society. To women, to the poor, to those who live in the depths of Brazil. And I think this needs to be analyzed from a social point of view. I think that Social Security today fulfills an income distribution role like any other body. There are 36 million Brazilians who receive some type of pension benefit”, concluded Lupi.
