Turns out the airline required their flight attendants wore shoes with heels between five and eight centimeters, in addition to a pre-defined makeup pattern.
To work at Vueling, the flight attendants had to use foundation that matched their skin tone, have their lips painted in discreet, eyeliner and black mascara, eyeshadow in gray or brown tones and not wearing false eyelashes under any circumstances some.
In contrast, male flight attendants only needed to maintain, according to company guidelines, a “clean and organized appearance” during working hours.
No specific guidelines were identified regarding the type of footwear to be used or specific make-up regulations for men.
The Stavla union, responsible for representing Vueling crew members, formalized the official complaint regarding the matter.
After the imposition of the penalty, the airline collaborated with the union to gradually introduce changes to its uniform and aesthetic requirements.
From now on, make-up rules became completely optional for all flight attendants, regardless of gender.
Women's teams benefited from a wider range of footwear alternatives, including options with lower three-centimeter heels.
According to a report by the newspaper El Periodico, responsible for reporting the case, the company has the option of appealing the determination of the fine, which could lead to the reduction or even the cancellation of the penalty, since measures opposed to the initial complaint were applied.
