Portuguese errors are the main reason for eliminating candidates

A survey carried out by the recruitment company Catho indicates that mistakes in Portuguese are the main reason why contractors eliminate candidates for a job opportunity, even overcoming the lack of experience.

According to 34% of the recruiters who participated in the survey, these flaws in the curriculum indicate lack of attention and language skills and lack of interest. As it is the first and main document between the candidate and the interviewer, this first impression ends up ruining the chances of getting the job.

The survey found that the factors that lead a recruiter to immediately delete a resume are:

  • Portuguese mistakes (34%)
  • Lack of experience (25%)
  • Absence of professional goals (10%)
  • The candidate lives far from the company (9%)
  • Lack of visual presentation (9%)
  • Other reasons (9%)
  • The candidate does not have higher education or complementary courses (3%)
  • Resume with more than one page (1%)

The survey also indicates that for each vacancy, a recruiter receives between 30 and 50 resumes, and of this total, only 5 to 10 candidates are invited to participate in an interview. It is for this reason that, according to Catho's manager, Bianca Machado, it is necessary to pay greater attention to curriculum before sending it, so as not to be deleted in the first step.

“In a scenario of great competition, the number of candidates for vacancies is increasing. It is up to the recruiter to filter the candidates and choose the one that best fits the job profile. Getting burned on the first contact because of grammar mistakes is not missing an interview opportunity, but several. The curriculum must receive a lot of attention before being sent to the market”, he reinforces.

Still according to the research, the curriculum is essential during a selective process, hence the importance of keeping it always up to date, with good writing and attractive to the employer. 75% of recruiters responded that this tool is “very important”, and 25% selected the “important” option. The alternatives “neutral”, “little important” and “not important” were not marked.
