New PIS/PASEP calendar: Payments start in January 2022

The PIS, or wage bonus, is an annual payment for workers in private companies and can reach up to 1 minimum wage. Public servants, on the other hand, receive the PASEP, which is similar to the PIS. In the year 2021 there was no payment of the benefit, but there is a new PIS/PASEP calendar and payments are expected to start in January 2022.

Who are the workers eligible to receive the PIS

  • To receive the benefit, it is necessary to register with the PIS for at least 5 years;
  • Having received an average monthly payment of a maximum of two minimum wages in the base year;
  • Have carried out some remunerated activity for a Legal Entity for at least 30 days in the base year;
  • Have the data reported by the employer in the Annual Social Information List (RAIS).

How to know the value of PIS

To calculate the PIS value, it is necessary to divide the minimum wage by 12 and then multiply by the number of months worked for at least 30 days.

Thus, those who worked for a month in 2020 should receive R$ 101.00 if it is confirmed that the new minimum wage will be R$ 1,210.00. Therefore, those who worked during the 12 months of 2020 will receive a total of R$ 1,210.00.

When will the 2022 payment be

There will be two separate payments, because in 2021 there was no PIS payment. Thus, the first will refer to 2020 and the second to 2021. As there is speculation that the new value of the minimum wage is R$ 1,210.00, in this case the allowance can be up to R$ 2,400.00 over the course of the year.

There are still no exact dates for payment of the benefit, but the Deliberative Council of the Worker's Support Fund reported that they should start in January. Before, PIS was paid from July of one year to June of the following year, this time it will be from January to December of the same year.
