Netflix: Password sharing will have a 20% increase in the charge

One thing considered normal for some Brazilian users is sharing the Netflix password with friends to gain access to the streaming platform. However, this practice will soon end.

According to a statement from the company, the practice of so-called “password sharing” will be charged by the platform. This option is being tested in Chile, Peru and Costa Rica, however, it will still take a year for this movement to become effective for all users.

The company is aware that 100 million homes will be harmed after this measure goes into effect. “We have to be paid by them to some degree,” said Netflix co-CEO and founder Reed Hastings.

For Chief Operating Officer (COO) Greg Peters, this model will be progressively implemented in homes worldwide.

However, what we really want to know is how much more will be charged to the public. Well, the company estimates an increase of approximately 20% in the subscription fee. However, there will be some benefits, such as, for example, a more secure exchange, that is, each individual will have a different password when accessing the platform, even if it is on the same account.

But keep calm, after all, this operating model will only be put into practice in a year's time. However, one thing is certain: passwords will no longer be shared for free.
