In order to expand its business, the Chinese video streaming platform announced on Monday the opening of its immersive virtual reality experience.
The program blends elements of immersive theatre, virtual reality and other materials to create an experience in which participants have the feeling that they are walking – or sailing in boats and other vehicles – through a fantastic world with waterfalls, strong winds and explosions.
The Chinese capital of Shanghai is the setting for the immersive experience, which spans 300 square meters. The attraction is inspired by iQiyi's 2021 television drama,
“Luoyang”, whose plot takes place in the ancient Chinese capital that also bears the same name. According to the schedule, the attraction will remain open until May 18.According to Zhang Hang, vice president of iQiyi who leads the company's Dreamverse studio for behind the project, the Virtual Reality experience could receive around 40,000 visitors per year.
The VR experience was pitched by Zhang with more emphasis on its cinematic aspect than as an interactive game. He revealed that his team was working closely with the company's content production team to address VR requirements.
