Imagine a world without music. A world where all of humanity's musical history and culture has been lost forever. To prevent this from happening, a Norwegian company decided to create a vault on a frozen island to preserve all the world's music in case of environmental disasters or unforeseen events.

Vault on frozen island to store all the world's music
The idea arose when Luke Jenkinson, founder of the company, found out about other vaults in the same region, which kept samples of seeds and historical and cultural documents.
He then thought about how to store all the music that has shaped us for centuries, protecting it from irreparable loss.
The vault, called the Global Music Vault, will be built on Svalbard, an island located between Norway and the North Pole. The island is already home to the Global Seed Vault and the Arctic World Archive, which store millions of seeds and important documents, respectively.
The Global Music Vault will follow the same security and storage standards, with steel doors to protect music from any threat.
To ensure that music is stored securely, the company is working in partnership with Microsoft, which developed the emerging technology Project Silica.
This technology allows the storage of information in squares of quartz glass, the size of CD cases, with laser-cut information that can last tens to hundreds of thousands of years.
In addition to protecting music history, the Global Music Vault also aims to educate the music industry on the importance of preserving and securing original recordings.
The fire that occurred at Universal Studios in 2008, which destroyed 175,000 master tapes, was one of the reasons that accelerated the realization of the project.
The creation of the Global Music Vault is an important initiative to ensure the preservation of human history and musical culture.
With the advancement of technology and the possibility of safe storage, it is possible to protect these recordings unforeseen events and ensure that future generations have access to our cultural heritage accumulated.
It's a reminder to the music industry of the importance of protecting these original recordings and preserving music history.
