The mother explained the situation

She explained that her father sadly passed away in 2015 and that her half-sister, Gracie, who lived in North Carolina, lost her mother shortly thereafter. Upon learning that Gracie was at risk of being put up for adoption after her mother's death, Hunter filed for custody of her half-sister in court.

However, she reported that becoming an overnight mother to her younger sister caused some drama in her family. In another excerpt, she revealed that she received a series of death threats from members of Gracie's maternal lineage, who did not want her to be given parental rights. The girl's aunt even hired a lawyer in an attempt to stop her request for custody.
