Green comet will be visible for the first time in 50,000 years!

One comet of bright green color, recently discovered, will be visible in the skies for the first time in 50 thousand years. The comet was called C/2022 E3 (ZTF) and will come closer to the sun tomorrow, 12. It will be possible to see it in the northern hemisphere and in the morning. See how to prepare to register the event!

It will be able to be distinguished from other stars by virtue of its striated tail and energized particles, which, in this case, glow a vivid green. The glow is caused by an “envelope” that builds up around the comet as it passes the sun; moment when its icy exterior is instantly transformed into gas.

C/2022 E3 (ZTF) was recently discovered, in March last year, by astronomers who used the wide field camera from the Zwicky Transient Facility at the Palomar Observatory which is located in San Diego. The comet's motion passes well beyond the reach of the solar system every time it orbits the sun, which is why it took so long for it to circle Earth again.

Thus, the last appearance of the comet was about 50,000 years ago, when only two million humans were on Earth. Our ancestors, the Neanderthals, were not yet extinct. Curious, isn't it?

According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the comet is quite unpredictable, but it is constantly glowing as it approaches the sun. That way, it will be possible to see it with the use of binoculars. A NASA even claims that it may be possible to observe the celestial body shining in the heavens even without using equipment, during the night.

The closest approach to the comet should take place between the first two days of February. It will eventually find itself approximately 42 million kilometers away from our planet. As it gets closer, it will be possible to find it in the early evening, near the star Polaris, also known as the North Star.
