Autodidact is an adjective and noun of two genders, used to designate a person who has the ability to learn something on their own, without the aid of a teacher or mentor. Someone who learns something on their own.
Example: "She is self-taught in English."
Self-taught people are known for their willpower and persistence in learning something, be it a subject, a musical instrument, a language, among other things. Without the help of a teacher who can instruct the first steps, the self-taught person faces a lot of difficulty at the beginning of the learning process.
The self-taught learning process includes intense research on the subject you want to master, in addition to continuous exercise, based on the "hit and miss" technique.
Self-taught people are often confused with nerds or CDFs (individuals who like to study a lot), however, the difference lies in the taste of studying without someone's help, while nerds they just like to study, however (or with whomever) it is. In fact, self-taught people enjoy the learning process than in the final result.
O self-taught it is not considered a "born gift", that is, a characteristic that is born with the individual. Everyone can be self-taught, theoretically. However, there are some people who consider self-taught an "easier" method of learning, seeing teaching with a teacher as something unsatisfactory.
In English, the word self-taught can be translated to self-taught or self-taught.
