Despite being one of the most sophisticated airports in the world, this one is quite peculiar, as it is a completely artificial island 4 km long and 2.6 km wide. This airport is also the first to be built in the middle of the sea, and its access is via a bridge that connects the island to Japan.

2. Wellington International Airport, New Zealand

Wellington International Airport has a runway that starts and ends at sea, which can make landing quite challenging, especially in an area known for high winds.

In November 2007, an incident illustrated the difficulty of this landing: a Cessna 172 plane overturned when entering the runway during strong northerly winds, demonstrating the need for great skill and caution by pilots operating in this airport.

The airport is quite peculiar as it was built across Winston Churchill Avenue, a main road in the country. Thus, every time a plane approaches to land, the runway has to be closed, interrupting vehicle traffic. However, as the track is not very busy, the situation does not usually cause major inconvenience.

4. Congonhas Airport, Brazil

This airport is one of the busiest in Latin America and is located just 11 kilometers away from the center of São Paulo.

Unfortunately, in 2007, there was a tragic air accident, in which a TAM plane failed to stop in the airstrip, exceeded its limits and collided with a building and a gas station in the nearby. The accident was responsible for the loss of 199 lives.
