In the city of San Francisco, in California, GM has been offering Cruise as a standalone ride-hailing service. Since June of this year, this has been the new method of travel. According to the automaker, the autonomous cars reached the route of “more than half a million miles”, which indicates a relevant approval for the presented product.
It is still a technology that needs to evolve and it is on this path to improve the services offered, by all indications. Therefore, the system of self-driving cars may fail while carrying a passenger.

The car, a Chevy Bolt, got stuck in traffic and was in a state of confusion at an intersection. Even in front of a green traffic light, the car did not go ahead and automatically turned on the warning lights.
A Twitter user shared the video in which you can see that the autonomous Bolt was stopped for a long time in front of the traffic light. Meanwhile, other cars came behind, honking their horns and trying to avoid the vehicle.
Another autonomous car, the Jaguar I-Pace, operated by Waymo, stopped in traffic just after the stalled Bolt and was waiting its turn to proceed. That is, almost a traffic jam of autonomous cars!
Unlike GM, which chooses to take trips without the company of drivers, Waymo chooses to keep the driver close in case something happens that gets out of control. Therefore, the Jaguar was not stopped for long at the traffic light behind the Bolt.
The autonomous Bolt remained stationary for 13 minutes, until a GM technical employee arrived to remove the car from the scene and cleared the traffic. In this story, no one was injured and only the frustration of some drivers remained.
It is not the first time!
One month after the launch of the cars autonomous, a Cruise Bolt also stopped on a road, as Insideevs points out. In addition to these cases, another vehicle had to be stopped by police for driving with its headlights off at night.
The autonomous car service was well accepted by the population, but these flaws prove that there is something that needs to be fixed until they can have an even safer service for everyone.
