Why are names banned?
According to Federal Law 6015, which came into force in 1973, notary offices cannot register any name on a child. According to the fifth article of the same law, the registry officer can intervene and deny the registration of a name if he considers that it could cause problems for that person's future.
If the parents present the name they wish to give their child and that name does not comply with the standards required by the Constitution, the decision can be referred to a judge who will decide on the name of the child.
Furthermore, not only the meaning of the name can be a reason to lead to the judge. The number of letters and the way of writing can also be a reason for the need for a decision above. In the case of a foreigner, it is necessary to prove the existence of the name in the country of origin.
