Is it necessary to wash the rice before preparing it?
This is a very common question. In fact, it is not correct to wash rice because this process causes the grains to lose some nutrients. However, some people feel more comfortable washing rice before cooking in order to eliminate possible residual dirt and the starch powder that remains as a remnant of grain polishing, in the case of rice white.
Now that you know that it is not necessary to wash the rice, check out the recipe below to make it in the microwave. This preparation is very easy, preparation time is only 25 minutes and yields 10 servings, but you can adjust the amounts of ingredients as you serve them at home.
Microwave Rice
Ingredients
- 2 cups of rice;
- 1 strand of olive oil or oil;
- 2 spoons (tea) of salt;
- 2 minced garlic cloves;
- ¼ chopped onion;
- 4 cups of water;
- 1 bay leaf (optional)
Method of preparation
Mix the ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl. Then cover with plastic wrap and make small holes with a toothpick. If you prefer, you can use a lid that has holes and is microwave-safe. Done that, microwave for 15 minutes at high power.
Check to see if the water has dried completely or if the grains are not yet fully cooked. If necessary, add a little more water and cook for another 5 minutes, until the rice is dry and properly cooked.
Finally, wait a few minutes before taking the rice out of the microwave and be very careful, as the container gets very hot! If you have a kitchen glove at home, it is recommended to use it, or pick up the refractory with the help of a dish towel.
